DIY Carbon Fiber Prepreg. How to Make Your Own Pre Preg Carbon Fiber Video
Making your own carbon fiber pre-preg is easy and doesn't have to be messy. Learn how to DIY from Algie Composite Aircraft and Woodward Aerospace. You can also use these same techniques for prepreg fiberglass or any other composite material.

Can I use regular ...
Can I use regular fiberglass? or will it be hard since it turns clear once wetted out? I want to use the thinnest fiberglas mesh on the market. I dont care about a perfect finish sinse it will get painted, Im doing my parts in a mold with a 20 mm core, will the trapped air in the core cause a problem? I do NOT need the quality and strenght that an aeroplane? needs.I just want to find a less messy method "laying up" Can I use vaccum and heatlamps/blankets instead of an oven? will it cure uneven?

Hi, I liked the ...
Hi, I liked the video a lot! I need to make a pair of fins... So I need the blades? to be flexible after curing, and to withstand thousands of oscillations - when in use. They also need to be rather snappy, resilient, act like a flat spring and go straight after being bent at each stroke... Could you show some advice? Thanks a lot! , at vkotsev@yahoo.com
My project has not ...
My project has not been cooperating with vacuum bagging. Part of the problem is the rough surface finish. I am experimenting with bladder molding to get a smooth finished surface out of the mold. Will this prepreg work on bladder molding? Also, I didn't see a reply to the source of high? temp resin/hardener.

Sean, thanks & welcome to the world of composites...where EVERYONE has an opinion : ) There is alot of conflicting information because people do things differently...that's fine. If you want more info? on how David Algie (a Champion IndyCar fabrication veteran) then look for his LP1 aircraft yahoo group which has alot of free info. Just remember the group is dedicated to the LP1...so do a search of old messages first. We hate answering things 100z and youtube has a character limit for answer
hey guys, love the ...
hey guys, love the video but have some questions. from my understanding prepregs come with the "correct" ratio of carbon to? resin of 70 to 30. how do you achieve this ratio, or is that still done with the vacuume when your making the accuall part? if so isnt that just like a hand layup? please forgive me, im new to the composite world, but have done alot of research, i probably have alot of conflicting info rattaling around in my head!
Who is the supplier ...
Who is the supplier of the embossed plastic sheeting that your using?
Also, after? you lay up the pre-preg, do you remove the top plastic sheet and use a peel ply? Or do you vacuum bag it with the plastic sheeting on, and do you need a bleeder fabric?

Thanks, i also just read, that it depends on the amount of hardener you mix in, which will determine the curing? temperature and time
Depending upon ...
Depending upon which resin system, or really what? hardener you're using, a room-temp hardener will start curing immediately and quickly. The best result you will get with a freezer is delaying the cure a few hours. Typically room-temp hardeners begin an exothermic reaction immediately upon mixing...once that curve begins it's going to end.

HI...i was wondering why? i can't use room temperature resin instead, but store it in a freezer to prevent it from curing ??
